[2008.07.28] first ride

literally my first "ride" on the bike (other than practicing in parking lots). the wife was working at six, and after dropping her off, and going back home to get the bike, i went off exploring on roads i'd never been on, on a bike i'd barely gotten used to, starting off with quite slim visibility due to the early morning fog.

not my brightest moment, but... that's just the way i am. i find adventure in snap decisions, and this was a prime example.

 • gassing up in the morning, you can barely see the hill that i'm about to climb.
 • this sign under-exaggerates the "twistiness" of this road. maybe not the best idea for a first ride... but who cares?
 • i spent most of the morning "posing" the bike, to get pics of it.

this one became my "avatar" on most of the moto-websites that i joined.
 • i felt like a complete dork attempting to "pose" on the bike, while it was stopped.
 • as you can see... the fog covering the hills around me was still lifting.
 • decision time... do i go the easy way (straight), or the hard way (left)?

definitely left.
 • someone loves poop!

last time i rode this road (about 6mo after this shot was taken), the "poop" was painted over.
 • i spent most of the morning "posing" the bike, to get pics of it.
 • this was the end of the ride, and the turn around point. i stopped, took a break, drank some water, and went back the way i came.

before that morning, i didn't even know this reservoir was there.
 • upside... i like the framing of the shot. downside... you can see the dents in the tank.
 • i've taken this same shot multiple times, at different times of the day over the past few years... this was the first time taking it at sunrise.
 • this is the beginning / top of felter rd, going off into the hills
even the sunspot / streak in the photo is pretty.
